The Shadow Sphere is one of my most recognised designs, created to hold its own by day and transform the space around it after dark.
Fabricated from mild steel, its banded, faceted form catches the daylight and changes character as you move around it. After dark, concealed 24V LED lighting projects broad bands of light and shadow across nearby lawns, courtyards and walls. The sphere all but disappears into silhouette, with the surrounding surfaces becoming part of the work.
Available from 900 mm to 2000 mm in diameter, each Shadow Sphere can be positioned to create a different lighting effect within residential gardens and commercial landscapes.
I discovered this piece by accident. I was experimenting with light inside the sphere when the shadows opened across the ground around it. In that moment, the shadow became as important as the steel.
