Autumn Tree

Matt Hill Projects designed, fabricated and installed Autumn Tree, a 5.5-metre illuminated Corten steel sculpture created as a landmark for Autumn Aged Care in Frankston, Victoria.

The brief was to develop a recognisable sculptural work that represented the Autumn Aged Care brand, with lighting playing a central role in its identity. The familiar form of a tree was reinterpreted at an architectural scale, creating a strong presence during the day and a continually changing experience after dark.

Integrated RGB LED lighting allows Autumn Tree to respond to the Victorian calendar throughout the year. Its colours change to recognise seasonal occasions, Pride celebrations, St Patrick's Day and significant sporting events, transforming the sculpture into an active part of the site's identity.

Aged Care Developments delivered the wider project, with the RGB lighting supplied and installed by Aqualux.

  • Autumn Tree has become a defining landmark for the development. Matt translated the Autumn Aged Care identity into a sculpture that feels strong and architectural by day, then transforms completely through light at night. — Tim Fountain, Architect, Aged Care Developments
