Aya Niseko Hotel, Japan

Aya Niseko is a large-scale architectural façade fabricated by Matt Hill Projects for a luxury hotel development in Hokkaido, Japan. Designed in collaboration with architect Koichi Ishiguro, the installation extends across more than 250 square metres of the building.

The name Aya carries Japanese associations with pattern and design. Matt Hill Projects used this as the starting point for a repeated system of vertical steel blades, creating a strong architectural identity across the exterior and interior of the hotel.

The external façades were fabricated from 3mm Corten steel, chosen for the depth and natural variation of its weathered surface. Internally, the same design language continues through 3mm powder-coated steel elements, providing a refined contrast while connecting the different areas of the building.

Matt Hill Projects designed and fabricated the complete installation in-house at its Australian workshop and coordinated shipping to Japan. Installation was completed by the project team on site.
