Place Design Group and HM Developments commissioned 24 Corten steel Ellipse sculptures for The Cove, a residential landscape development at Pelican Waters, Queensland. Fabricated in-house at the Matt Hill Projects workshop in Rosebud and delivered to Queensland in stages, the sculptures form a repeated field of illuminated forms across the site.
The form changes as it is viewed from different directions, revealing shifting relationships between its curved steel sections. During the day, the sculptures provide a strong visual structure within the landscape. After dark, their integrated lighting transforms the development, connecting the individual works into a unified whole.
Base plates, footing requirements and electrical provisions were coordinated with the project team to integrate the sculptures into the surrounding architecture and landscaping.
